doctor drama

so i took logan to the doctor for his monthly check up this morning. he weighed in at 20 pounds, 10 ounces. i expected him to weigh more but with all of the crawling going on these days, i guess he's working it off. logan's regular doctor was out today so we had a doctor we've never seen before, dr. mcchesney.

i should have listened to my gut when the doctor first entered the room where logan and i were waiting. she didn't introduce herself to me. she asked what shots logan was to have today. i told her polio, pcv, and flu. that was it. then logan would be done with all of his shots until 1 year. she insisted he needed another hep b shot. she asked me if he received this shot at the hospital. i told her yes, because i remember that he did. she said it wasn't on the yellow form so it didn't happen. excuse me? she was very rude and if she had bothered to look up from her laptop, she would have seen my facial expression and known i was not happy with her in the five minutes we had been speaking. i told her i wanted logan to have the three shots that i had said. she agreed and attempted to leave the room. i stopped her to ask a few questions about logan not wanting to eat his stage 2 food as well as he had eaten his stage 1 food. she asked specifically which foods. i said the combo food. she continued to press me on which ones. "hey lady, listen to my words!" she said it was alright for him to only eat the singular fruits and veggies. she said this in a very demeaning, "duh idiot" sort of way. "not everyone likes everything." ok. mental note to ask his real doctor next time.

the nurse finally entered the room after several minutes. poor logan actually smiled at her. didn't see that one coming! the nurse had me sign papers for loges to receive his flu shot. she preceeded to give him 3 shots. logan cried and cried. he screamed for several minutes. usually, he calms down as soon as i pick him up. hmm. . .

we set up his next appointment and left. crocodile tears still streaming down his face. i had a weird vibe when the nurse came in with the shots. i should have listened to it, but i didn't realize what exactly felt wrong at the time.

unware of the situation that had already transpired, logan and i went to auntie amanda's to hang out and say hi to auntie, jen, and emily. after about an hour and a half or so, i happened to look at the information they hand you regarding the immunizations logan had received. the information i was given did not match the immunizaitons i had requested. they were for the flu shot, pcv, and HEP B! i then looked at logan's yellow form with his immunization history. the doctor had put today's date for the flu, pcv, and hep b. apparently, the doctor hadn't listened to what i had said and just did what she wanted anyway.

i was livid.

i scooped logan up and we headed straight back to the doctor's office. i was going to demand to speak to the culprit. i was going to yell and scream and give her a piece of my mind. how dare she. that doctor went against my wishes and injected my son with an immunization i did not approve.

we arrived and logan was alseep in the car. i contemplated just calling from the parking lot and letting logan sleep. but i decided against it. i wanted them to see my face. i wanted them to hear the desperation in my voice. thankfully, logan stayed asleep on my shoulder the entire time.

the ladies at the front desk tried to help me. they looked up logan's file to ensure the shots given matched his paperwork. the doctor was out to lunch but they insisted she would call me later in the day. she did a few hours later while i was changing one of logan's many poo diapers. . . . we've been playing phone tag ever since.

a friend of mine said this has happened to her also. i find this appauling. in this day and age, when people are so aware and sensitive to immunizations, how could this be happening? the doctor today knew i was splitting logan's shots up. she knew i was sensitive to him receiving his immunizations. i'm on top of this! how did this happen? do i need to take the shots from the nurse and see for myself what they are? should i prepare the shots myself?!

just writing this now, 10 hours later, is getting me heated. regardless of what the doctor says to me on the phone, i'm going to report her. this should not happen. even if it was not melicious, she should ensure she is clear on what the patient wants before moving forward.

at the end of the day, logan has had more than enough hep b shots (thanks lady) and is still in need of 1 more polio shot. he was suppsed to be done for a few months! aaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!

maybe we'll sue and take care of logan's college fund. hmm. . . .

logan is 8 months old!

"no mom, don't tell them!"
"hi dad!"
happy 8 months loges!  my baby is getting so big so fast!  his 5th tooth is coming in.  he is crawling all over the place.  he's pulling himself up to standing position now.  our favorite is when he claps, waves, and turns his head sideways imitating what we are doing.  he babbles and has said, "baa baa" for bottle and "bye" to his own reflection.  for those of you who have met logan in person, you know he loves to stare and examine everything and everyone he comes across.  we call this his "caveney look" since my hubby tends to make that same face!  we love logan so much.  he has brought such joy to our lives.  we love you logan!!!  happy 8 months!!!

we have been very busy lately with cousin's birthdays and trips to disneyland.  in the midst of all of this activity, my computer broke down and i got a new mac.  i'm still transitioning my data and pictures over to the new computer so i'm a bit behind on my updates.  keep checking back for new posts and pics from our recent adventures!
